Carla Forte started practicing yoga because it simply felt good to her body. Shortly after starting her practice, she became ill. Two weeks passed and she could hardly breathe or talk. Having exhausted tons of home remedies, she remembered how much heat she generated in her body and how good she felt after her practice. So she went to the mat! She believes the sun salutations helped open her breathing passages and helped facilitate her healing. She’s been hooked ever since!

Carla completed her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with Carson Efird at EVOLVE Movement in the fall of 2010. Her background is in Social Work (MSW), Business (MBA,) and Psychology (BS). She is currently serving the community as a Clinical Social Worker and Addiction Specialist providing mental health therapy and coaching.

Carla loves the Yoga Spandakarika quote, “There are two human beings. One helps the other only because he shows her that she is free and gives her the information that will allow her to make this extraordinary discovery on her own. Everything is there, marvelously present, ready to open and blossom. It is only a matter of giving oneself the space to acknowledge this power.”

“I love seeing the look on a student/client’s face when they become aware of strength or power that they thought they did not possess!”

It was love at first sight when Holli took her first yoga class 10 years ago in Chapel Hill as a student at UNC. As fate would have it, shortly thereafter, she suffered a series of health problems that culminated in needing total hip-replacement surgery at the age of 22. It was during these years, as she funneled her passion for running and gym workouts into her burgeoning yoga practice that it’s healing and truly transformative powers began to take hold. She practiced throughout the Southeast with many different teachers over the next decade as her love for yoga deepened, eventually leading her to pursue her Yoga Alliance certified 200 hr training through Raleigh NC Yoga in early 2011. Highly influenced by Vinyasa flow yoga, Holli’s classes are a testament to moving meditation. Connecting movement to breath and mind to body, yoga has a real ability to transform and heal, allowing the rich beauty of life to be experienced fully. Holli’s classes will guide you to live in the moment and savor it, always with a smile. Life is simply a series of moments, none of which we should take too seriously.

______________________________________________________

Denise Stetten has been fascinated with movement her whole life and a student of the human body since 2000. Born of two very competitive athletes, it was only a natural fit for her to follow suit, competing for the Barbados National Team in competitive swimming, synchronized swimming and triathlons. In spite of all that training, Denise felt something was missing; she found the missing links in Pilates and Yoga, which she has been practicing since 1998. In May 2010, Denise completed a 200-hour teaching certification with Blue Lotus Yoga and Movement Arts in Raleigh, NC. Besides the obvious benefits of strength and flexibility, yoga has given her the gifts of silence and stillness offering a critical balance in an otherwise hectic life. Denise offers an eclectic mix Vinyasa and Restorative yoga.

Denise’s enthusiasm for Pilates began in 2000 when, at the pleading request of a friend, she skeptically attended her first Pilates class and simply fell in love with the method. She noticed that her core strength had increased tremendously allowing for ease of movement and exceptional control in all of her activities! Denise became mat certified in 2003 and equipment certified in 2005 with the PHYSICALMIND INSTITUTE® of New York. Denise is a PMI Certified Pilates Instructor Mat (2003), Apparatus (2005), RYT (2010).

Denise believes that yoga and pilates offer us the tools and methods to find balance in our lives which our society needs now more than ever. They offer a system of moving through the world with integrity – physically, spiritually and emotionally. Denise’s style of teaching stresses form, function and fluidity while her ultimate goal is to see clients assimilate Pilates and yoga principles into their daily lives. She is thrilled to help clients find safe and efficient movement; improved posture and body awareness; and a sense of peace, mindfulness and well-being.

Her favorite quotation: “When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds that it is attached to the rest of the world.” – John Muir

She studied ballet as a child, then gradually shifted toward modern dance, spending a year in the NCSU dance company. As she got older, dance became too physically demanding and she transitioned again to yoga. After a skiing accident and successive knee surgery, “fitness” had to be redefined. She needed an activity that could encourage both strength and flexibility, but with regard to physical limitations. She still loved yoga, but needed an exercise that would help to strengthen and balance her weakened leg. Thus, she discovered Pilates. Pilates not only improved the condition of her knee, but helped her to see the importance of proper form in both exercise and daily life. It didn’t take long for Rebecca to see and feel the positive results of Pilates. Feeling the desire for a career change, Pilates seemed to be a perfect fit. She is currently progressing through teacher training under Melissa Kakavas.

Her dedication and commitment to basketball paid off when she earned an athletic scholarship to play at Campbell University. Following her graduation in 2001 she searched for an outlet to keep her competitive spirit stimulated and her body in shape. She discovered Pilates and immediately fell in love with the mind and body connection it facilitates, as well as, the physical challenges it offers. Following the birth of her daughter in 2008, as a stay-at-home mom, Alyssa utilized at-home Pilates DVD’s and running on local greenways to get back into shape. Determined to find a career that would allow for her to share her passion for fitness and health, as well as, fulfill her love to help and connect with others, falling into a career in Pilates felt like the perfect fit. As a Pilates apprentice, Alyssa strives to provide and create an engaging and challenging experience while focusing on the individual needs and fitness goals of each client.

2 – I am completely addicted to cooking shows! Especially the competition ones – Chopped, Top Chef, etc…
3 – I am a cat person more than a dog person…not that I don’t like dogs… ;-)
4 – I have done some local community theatre in the past – I played the Mother in A Christmas Story a few years back! It was really fun!!
5 – The only form of yoga that I have ever really studied is Ashtanga – I’ve tried a few classes here and there in other disciplines, but kept coming back to Ashtanga.
6 – I’ve never broken a bone…knock wood!
7 – There aren’t many foods that I don’t like…Feta cheese is one of them.
8 – I recently (in the past year) began learning and practicing the Advanced Series of Ashtanga yoga – really fun and challenging!
9 – I have two fabulous boys – Chris (14) and Ben (11) – and I love spending time with them – and with my hubby Dave also!
10 – I once went on a date with James Taylor…Really!! He had a sister named Liz!

Stacy Ingham was a brand-new stay-at-home mom in a new city and was looking for a way to get out of the house a little more. She saw an ad at the local community center for a 6-week intro to “Power Yoga” and signed up. She loved it because the practice included strength, flexibility and endurance, and she could practice at home when she wanted. It was based on the book by Beryl Bender Birch, and she loved it from the very beginning. Stacy began teaching at a health club and then completed the Level I Yogafit teacher training. With over 12 years practice in the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga tradition, and 9 years experience teaching Ashtanga yoga in the Triangle area, Stacey takes regular workshops in the Ashtanga tradition with various teachers including David Swenson, Annie Pace, Matthew Sweeney and David Keil.

Stacy’s personal philosphy about yoga is about empowerment and freedom. “From a physical standpoint, I am stronger than I have ever been. From a spiritual and emotional standpoint, I am stronger, more flexible, and more disciplined than I have ever been. Yoga has been a gateway to what is possible in all of us, whether staying calm through the storms life brings us, or being physically able to play more and have fun doing what I love and being with my family and friends.”

Stacy enjoys teaching because it “reinforces what I learn from my own practice. Often I will “figure something out” while I am practicing in the morning, and will take that with me to a class. I love sharing these insights and discovering more layers as a class or practice progresses. I have also just met so many amazing people through teaching and learned so much from being a part of the yoga community, both locally and globally.” Her favorite quotation is “Wherever you go, there you are” ~Buddha
