Rebecca Toms

Rebecca has a background in dance and yoga and has always enjoyed the more graceful side of fitness. She studied ballet as a child, then gradually shifted toward modern dance, spending a year in the NCSU dance company. As she got older, dance became too physically demanding and she transitioned again to yoga.  After a skiing accident and successive knee surgery, “fitness” had to be redefined. She needed an activity that could encourage both strength and flexibility, but with regard to physical limitations. She still loved yoga, but needed an exercise that would help to strengthen and balance her weakened leg. Thus, she discovered Pilates. Pilates not only improved the condition of her knee, but helped her to see the importance of proper form in both exercise and daily life. It didn’t take long for Rebecca to see and feel the positive results of Pilates. Feeling the desire for a career change, Pilates seemed to be a perfect fit. She is currently progressing through teacher training under Melissa Kakavas.
